Let's learn about linguistic today!
Do you know what coinage is?
I mean do you really know what is meant by the word "coinage"???
NO?
Okay, have you ever experience using the brand name of a product to refer to a specific thing?
If YES, that is actually coinage.
Coinage is creation of totally new word. This word formation process is not frequent, however large corporations attempt to outdo one another to invent short eye-catching names for their products.
1) Instead of using the word "softener", we always tend to refer it as "softlan".
2) This should be called ''deodorant", but we often use the brand to refer to "deodorant".
3) "Maggi" often being used to refer to "instant mee".
4) "Panadol" is actually a paracetamol.
5) "Clorox" being used to refer to bleech.
6) The brand "Ambi Pur" always being used to refer to air-freshener.
Basically, COINAGE is the formation of new word.
REMEMBER, IT'S THE FORMATION OF NEW WORD.
P/S: We'll learn more in the next post. :)
